Can your product create an air barrier in addition to providing R-value?

Minnesota Insealators Answer
: Icynene® is an air barrier and will stop drafts and leaks around plumbing and electrical hardware. Icynene® easily seals odd shaped areas and gives a perfect fit everywhere it is used. Fiberglass and cellulose depend on poly to stop the air. The poly is then filled with staple and sheetrock screw holes and cut away from electrical boxes. Icynene® also prevents condensation by stopping the moist air from collecting on the cold outer wall coverings. Icynene® is an effective air barrier.

Is your product a deterrent to mold and other allergens?

Minnesota Insealators Answer
: Mold needs three things in order to grow, air, moisture and food. Icynene® provides an effective barrier to those three items. By completely sealing out the moist indoor air, mold loses its life giving air and moisture that it needs to grow. Mold food travels in the air and is driven by wind. By stopping the food from entering the wall cavity the chances of mold forming and surviving are reduced. Fiberglass offers little in stopping the three needs mold must have. Icynene® homes are less likely to mold.

Will your product hold its R-value in reduced temperature and winds situations?

Minnesota Insealators Answer
: R-values are measured in a lab at zero degrees F. A 2X6 wall insulated with fiberglass will have an R-value of 19 at zero degrees with no wind. If the temperature is dropped to –10 ° and the wind speed increased to 10mph the R-value will drop to 6, due to air leakage. This is why homes insulated with Icynene® foam will heat and cool for up to 50% less than fiberglass homes.

Is your product safe for use in my home?

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Some products used as insulation may not be approved for indoor use. Some foams contain HCFC’s, CFC’s and other chemicals known to be harmful to humans and the environment. Urethane foams rely on trapping gases while expanding to gain R-value. Icynene® has no harmful chemicals and traps air as it expands. Icynene® is used in the American Lung Association’s Healthy Home, and is labeled for use for people with severe allergies and asthma. Icynene® is a very safe product. Icynene® homes have higher indoor air quality.

Can your product reduce noise and sound problems.

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Most insulation products will reduce noise, however, Icynene® by performing as an air barrier also will stop more of the sound waves carried by the air. By tightly filling a wall cavity, sounds are greatly reduced. Icynene® homes are quieter than other homes.

Is your product a food source for insects, rodents or mold?

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Many materials used for insulation are made from organic materials such as paper or plant products. These products can provide food value and shelter to unwanted life forms. Icynene® has no food value to any life form. Another value of Icynene® forming a tight seal is that it will deter insects and rodents from entering a home. Rodents detect smells and heat from a home to find entrances into a home. By sealing the indoor air inside, rodents have a more difficult time finding access to the home. Icynene® homes are less susceptible to insects and rodents.

Will your product crack or shrink?

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Icynene® is a soft foam as compared to other rigid types of foam. Because it is soft and pliable it will not crack or break away from the studs. The air seal should always stay intact.

Does your product have fire risks?

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Icynene® will not support a flame on its own, and contributes nothing to a flame. Due to some foams fire hazards, Minnesota building codes require all foams to be covered in homes. Icynene® is not a source of fire fuel.

What kind of quality can I expect from the installers of your product?

Minnesota Insealators Answer: Minnesota Insealators has been spraying Icynene® exclusively for over 8 years. The company’s owner and founder still sprays many of the projects and oversees the installation process. Prior to becoming a licensed Icynene® dealer, he spent 12 years in the building trade. You are assured that you have a team of experts working to create a tight air seal in your building envelope. No other dealer in Minnesota has been spraying foam longer. Icynene® homes installed by Minnesota Insealators are insulated right and sealed tight.

Is your product backed by a lifetime warranty?

Minnesota Insealators Answer
: Only one foam insulation manufacturer has enough confidence in its product to back it with a lifetime warrantee that it will perform to its specifications for the life of the building. That product is Icynene® . It will not break crack or deteriorate. The soft foam formulation allows it to “move” with the building as it ages.
